Navajo Blanket
Western Saddle pad for hot weather / longer rides?
I'm going on a race track with my horse and organized weather looks at what happens at about 75-80 degrees. I do not intend to work hard sound, but the race will be longer, probably about 4-5 hours. I have a heavy western saddle pads, and I also have a Navajo blanket for her. I was wondering if the buffer of the West will be too hot, but if I had to use the coverage if it is comfortable and protect the amount of time. I will be with his camping for 2 days, then ill be she walked a lot, and I want to make sure it is comfortable and protected. I am open to any suggestions that come to mind, Also, if you have carpet saddle do you recommend that are affordable and will be happy in my situation, I would love to know! The pads have now are similar to these: http://www.horse.com/item/sierra-navajo-saddle-blanket/WJA05/ http://www.horse.com/item/straight-back-wool and-saddle-blanket-30 -in-x-30-in/WJA02 /
Getting the wool felt saddle pad is by far the best. It provides better shock absorption, the absorption of sweat, anti-slip, and keeps the horses back cooler. 5 star carpet is GREAT. They are a little on the expensive side though. If you really do not want to spend $ $ (but I think you should if you plan to ride for long periods often) then the second saddle blanket shows you might be better. Just do not get a neoprene rubber stamp or because it makes your horse sweat waaaay more! Neoprene is really not good for the back to everyone.
