Pair Native

is this sentence grammatically correct? Hope native English speakers can help?

sentence: The number of pairs made up of Chinese girls and foreign guys far exceeds that of pairs made up of Chinese boys and foreign girls.

I don't know if "pairs" is the correct word to use to include both couples and unmarried lovers?
Is this sentence a natural sounding sentence?
How would native speakers say it differently without changing its meaning?
Thank you for your help.

It's kind of an awkward thing to express. I would say "The number of couples consisting of Chinese females and foreign males far exceeds that of Chinese male and foreign female couples."

That is a more formal sounding sentence appropriate for coursework.
