Arrowhead Spear
WHERE would I take a unique piece of petrified wood and a spear head for evaluation and/or appraisal?
It is a part of a tree branch approx. 12" long with a knot hole on one side, and that knot hole is completely covered by a fossilized spider web. My boyfriend and I found it about eighteen months ago in Bluff Dale, Texas. We also found a 5" spear head and an arrowhead that match in color at the same place approx. 50 ft. apart from each other. I haven't been able to locate another piece remotley close in resemblence or size to any one of these items anywhere, even on the internet. Please help if possible. Thanks for any real help.
Is there a museum of natural history near where you live? I would start there. You may need to make an appointment with a curator. Ask if there are any fees involved with an evaluation of your piece.
You may also want to try your state's Department of Natural Resources. The staff may be able to guide you in the right direction to get your piece evaluated.
