American Tribe

How can a person trace which native american tribe they belong too?

so, if a person got a dna test and it showed they had native american blood in them, then how would they be able to then determine which tribe for example how would they know if they belonged to the sioux tribe or lakota? thanks!!
henri, that's not helping....

In order to 'belong' to a tribe you must be enrolled. You would not 'belong' to any tribe with just a DNA test. In order to be enrolled you'd have to be a descendant of a person listed on a tribe's base roll and meet all other requirements for enrollment including but not limited to meeting a minimum blood quantum and residency requirements. Only once you've submitted all of your paperwork (DNA paperwork does not count) linking you to a person already on the tribe's roll and the tribe verifies your paperwork and eligibility, will they send you an enrollment document stating that you 'belong' to that tribe.
