What is the most important piece of American art (not American Gothic)?

I am specifically looking for details of art painted during the Revolutionary period in America... Things dealing with important milestones (e.g. Washington crossing the Deleware, or Famous Presidential Portraits)... or alternatively some important artists during that time.
