Do bagworms eat pine needle trees?
I have a neighbor that says the reason our trees are turning brown is because the bagworms are eating them. I think it's because of the drought we've had all summer long.
Who's right?
Could be bagworms. They are bad this year in the mid West. Yes, bagworms do get on pines. You may have them confused with another pest correctly called webworms but often incorrectly called bagworms. The difference is obvious. Bag worms are one worm per sleeping bag......that hang off the branch.....often very well camoflauged with plant parts. Webworms weave a nasty web within the tree allowing many "worms" actually caterpillars, to live together.

Your drought isn't helping, but bagworms and webworms will strike even in good years. Time to control the problems and get what water you can to the trees.
