Was this old law passed for some religious purpose?
I was in class the other day and we were talking about weird laws and there is a law in one of the Carolinas (I don't remember which one) that forbids having sex with the lights on. Is there any religious belief behind this or are people just silly?
BTW-This law is not enforced today, although it has never been removed from the books.
Short answer - people in the past were stupid.
Longer answer - probably had to do with the general prudishness of the day.
