When gold was discovered people travelled from all over the United States and all over the world to California.

I'm not talking about football or a Native American tribe. Gold was discovered in California in 1848.
By 1849 thousands and thousands of people had travelled across the USA and the world to join the gold-rush.
They were called the 49ers because of the year 1849.
The 49ers would have spoken many languages English, Spanish, Chinese, German, French and a hundred other languages. It all depends where they came from.)
The Forty Niners
In the next year, close to 100,000 people went to California from the United States, Europe, and every other corner of the globe. Gold-seekers from Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, and China continued to sail across the Pacific along well established trade routes. The journey was far more complicated for citizens of the United States. A voyage from the East Coast to California around Cape Horn was 17,000 miles long and could easily take five months.
There was a shorter alternative: sailing to Panama, crossing the isthmus by foot or horseback, and sailing to California from Central America's Pacific Coast.
However, until 1850 there was no regular steamship travel in the Pacific, and passengers might find themselves stranded in Panama for weeks or months waiting for a ship to California. In 1849, approximately 40,000 poured in from one sea route or another. And most of these came to the port of San Francisco, once known as Yerba Buena, and the tiny town boomed.

Where did the Nez Perce live before contact with Anglo-Saxons and where do they live now?
The Nimi'ipuu lived in peaceful groups traveling seasonally with the deep canyons cut by the Snake, Clearwater and Salmon rivers.
The Nimi'ipuu traveled across Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. The tradition homeland of the NiMiiPuu is North Central Idaho, including areas in Southeastern Washington, Northeastern Oregon with usual and accustomed areas in Western Montana and Wyoming. The Nimi'ipuu aboriginal territory was approximately 17 million acres or approximately 70 thousand square kilometers or 27 thousand square miles; including the Clearwater River Basin, the South and Middle forks of the Salmon River Basin and their tributaries.
Today the Nimi'ipuu live all over the world, but the Nez Perce Reservation is located in North Central Idaho.
