What shotguns are legal in the UK?

I was idly flicking through a friend's copy of a recent shooting magazine, as he is a clay enthusiast, and saw a modern reproduction of the Winchester 1887 lever action has gone on sale in the UK (doesn't mean anything to me, I am just reading the caption). Now I though the maximum number of shells a shotgun could legally carry in the UK is 2 (+1 in the breech if the gun is a pump or semi-auto), but this shotgun was advertised as being 5+2; how can this be, if the legal limit is 2+1? It was definitely on sale in this configuration, so who would use a shotgun in the UK with so large a 'magazine'?

Technicaly you are right in what you say and think,
Pump, semi auto have the beauty of that 3rd shot, that means it will carry 1 in the chamber and 2 up the spount/breach, making it 3 shot.
Now this is tippical for one of theas guns and the licence you requier is a shotgun certificate which is granted by your local constabulary.
Some times 3 shot is not enough for some wildfowl, pigeon shooting enthusiasts ect so they ether perchase ofr converts the existing gun into a 5 or six shot ( acomplished by removing the plug in the breach) 1 in the chamber 4 to 5 in the breach, (genraly up to 4 magnums)
This cecumstance is onley alowed when the owner has a firearms certificate to which the gun in question is endorsed on to his certificate by the approval of the chife constable.
Each certificat costs a sum of £50 and has a life span of 5 years.
A "coterminous" shotgun certificate is also avalable, this is where both certificats are granted together and expier together, because they are proccesed together they can work out been much cheaper £ 65.
