What's the difference between New Testament Greek and Modern Greek?
I would like to try my hands on Modern Greek (hoping) to eventually learn New Testament Greek. However, I just want to ask an expert or linguist or something here in the house 
exactly what are the significant differences between the two? is it vocabulary? grammar? combination of both and more? Efharisto!
There are some differences and some similarities between modern and ancient greek. For example, the syllabic structure of Greek has not changed since the time of the new testament and is still the same whereas there have been extensive changes in the nominal and verbal systems, such as the loss of the dative case from the language. Certain parts of grammar such as the inflectional aspects and also the language's syntax have remained fairly constant, but die to the influx of loanwords from other languages, Greek vocabulary has vastly changed from ancient times, with each epoch having its own particular words in common parlance. Another difference is the fact that lowercase letters did not exist until they were introduced by scholars in medieval times, with only uppercase letters in use during the classical period.
