Found an earring on the ground, stem says "INV 14kt" what does that mean?

My daughter was digging through a pile of junk jewelry, found a solitaire sparkly "diamond" earring that is set in what looks like platinum and the earring stem is engraved with "INV 14kt". What does that mean? Thought I'd find out before we tossed it back into the junk pile!

The 2nd answer is ridiculous...14kt diamond would cost an incredible sum of money.

I'd guess that the 14kt part means 14kt gold or silver. "INV" is probably just the company that made it.
