Chevy 700r4 torque converter, how do I determine if I am right?
I have a 89 GMC truck, 5.7, 700r4. were trans rebuilt just before I bought the truck, accordind the former owner. The trans. began to slide down and reverse, in a week.I removed trans. for checking. By removing the trans. I noticed that when I removed the three bolts on the wheel, the converter has fallen to the trans. more than 1 / 2 ". By removing the trans. and the converter, I noticed that the slots of the pump shaft have was messed up at the end. I assume that the torque converter is engaged simply pump. there is a number "64" stamped steel continiously about the diameter of the converter, and a date stamp "12-23-03" rubber stamped on one corner. my question is do I have the converter correct? and if I do not, how can I determine where the torque converter to use. I just had the trans. rebuilt. rebuilder stated as long as the pump was engageing converter, everything is ok. CAN NOT afford another REBUILD. HELP! THANKS, ROBERT
